Is Nintendo TVii Going To Be Better Then Google TV?

Soon in November we will see the Nintendo TVii in real life.  Nintendo TVii is an attempt to make a live TV streaming service that is easily accessible on your Nintendo Wii-U.  Essentially the Nintendo Wii U TVii will give you access to thousands of shows via your handheld device and give you streaming abilities that will be controllable, searchable, and browse able right from your Wii U handheld console!   Not only will you be able to stream your shows, but you will also be able to search and view LIVE TV listings and movies where the conventional Netflix on your TV isn’t enough to supply that.  You will be able to use your game unit as a remote theoretically, however the general idea doesn’t really appeal to me.  There is ONE thing that I think is going to be a big hit, but the idea could easily be implemented on your Xbox, PS3, or even an online website offering the service, so it really isn’t “that cool”.  The idea itself is a good one though!  (continue reading…)

The idea that makes the Wii TVii a hit I believe is the “search functionality”.  When you search on your TV’s app, or your xBox, or PS3 device you first have to login into your desired content streaming service.  So for example you would login to Netflix, or login to HULU Plus.  Then you search for your desired movie or TV show.  If you cant find it, you can login into a different streaming service, or go to the TV and search for a show that is live.  What the Nintendo does is connect all the streaming services and puts them into one place so your search is centralized!  That idea alone could differentiate the Wii TVii from the other competitors like Google TV and others.  This I believe is the only difference aside from the fact that the Wii TVii is a glorified remote with a low quality screen and crappy looking controls.

When you get the Nintendo Wii TVii, you can simply begin your search and find the show you want instead of having to go in and out of each content streaming service to find the needed service.  SImply search for it and play!

To be honest, VaultFeed doesn’t have anything solid to say other then noting that its a great already existing implementation.  I personally don’t think that it will fly high.  We have watched the large google giant GOOGLE TV not do so well, and they own most of the ads pace to market something like that.  You will find that HULU+ and NETFLIX and others have the perfect selection.

However what someone needs to do, is make an iPad and iPhone app that offers cross platform serching and browsing with the implementation of all the major TV and MOVIE streaming services.  Then you could make money!  In fact you could start a site that charges you for a service that has limited plays, but cross platform ability, becuase it frustrating to find that Netflix doesn’t have the TV show you wanted to watch, but HULU+ does.  Wii U TVii will be a cool way to search the existing TV shows and Movies, but not the most popular thing yet!  What do you think?
