San Francisco Apple Store Moves To Union Square Shopping District

The currant Apple store in San Francisco has room enough for the normal Retail that Apple deems necessary, however Apple has been planning a major retail makeover in the past few months. Moving the current San Francisco Apple store to a new and improved retail location is one of their objectives. The new location would be a few blocks north of the currant location. This new location is said to be much better for retail as it would tie in better with the Union Square Shopping District within San Francisco.

Apple now is offering In-store trade-in and this new retail location will be one of the main places offering this service in the greater San Fran. area. However Apple may have competition from other companies like Gazelle and DeviceFlip. It all depends on How Apple approaches the buy-back. you can read more here: Apple Store iPhone Trade-in.

The Apple retail store seen above is the actual store that is located right now in the down section of San Francisco. The new location being proposed has hit some obstacles with the city. One of the biggest obstacles has to do with a fountain that “cant be moved”. However Apple has found some ways around it and will continue the plans to build the new Apple store aside from the problems that have been cause by the city ordinances and this fountain seen bellow. Apple had to submit a reconsideration request said MacRumors.

You can see the image bellow as a mockup – digital rendering of the new Apple store and what many say it will look like. You can also see that the the fountain will still be centered in the middle of the steps. Im sure that Apple doesn’t appreciate the fountain, however the retail benefits of being in this Union Square location outweigh the ugliness of this fountain!

This new location will also give the store a larger footprint and hopefully boost sales from the extra foot traffic that is said to be prominent in this area.

Apple always does a good job with their designs and when it comes to the industrial design of their stores, there isn’t an exception! This new Apple store seen above will feature a unibody glass design with shutters and skylights to improve the airy feel and lightness.

Its also interesting to note that this new San Francisco location will have less sky-scrapers around it which will allow a greater amount of light to come into the industrial building. This gives the industrial building team at Apple new ways to implement the usage of light. Its going to look amazing!
