iPhone 5S Drop Test vs. iPhone 5C Drop Test Video & Review

Here we bring you the iPhone 5S Drop Test vs. iPhone 5C Drop Test Video & Review.  You might be trying to decide on which iPhone to buy and looking at both the iPhone 5S and iPhone 5C.  Or maybe your just wanting to see some brutal gadget treatment!  In either case AndroidAuthority YouTube channel has brought us a great video depicting both the iPhone 5C and the iPhone 5S getting dropped in 3 different positions.

The picture seen above is a snapshot from the video that you can Watch below.  AndroidAuthority releases videos on drop tests and other tests on Androids, but they also have some particular interest in the iPhone.  This time they have given us a drop test video of the iPhone 5S vs iPhone 5C.  This video was launched pre-launch of the new iPhones, so someone had the iPhone before it was officially released!  Since then, the video has gone viral with over 8-million views.

Below I have summarized the findings of build and quality when it comes to common drops seen in the video below.

iPhone 5S Drop Test Review:

  • The iPhone 5S held up well on the back test, exhibiting little to no damage.  One small scratch in the corner was seen.
  • When the iPhone 5S was dropped on its side, it dented a little worse, however no cracks in the screen were seen!
  • The iPhone 5S then was put into a face-down drop test.  The findings were amazing; no cracks seen!

iPhone 5S Drop Test Summary:  This goes to prove that the iPhone 5S has similar if not better quality of build then the previous iPhone 5.  Both iPhone 5s and iPhone 5 did in fact cary the same outer shell with slight changes for the camera flash.  This iPhone 5S Drop Test did however show how drop tests can be inconsistent.  The face down iPhone 5S Drop Test showed that the 5S did not hit the same as the iPhone 5C as you will see described below.

The picture of the iPhone 5C bouncing in the picture above didn’t cause any damage, however when tested face down the results were different!  This year has been the first time that Apple has designed 2 different and separate models of the iPhone product line.  The iPhone 5S Drop Test showed that the iPhone 5S had similar build and quality as the previous but similar iPhone 5.  However we wanted to see how the iPhone 5C held up, and AndroidAuthority presented both in the video that you will see below.

iPhone 5C Drop Test Review:

  • The iPone 5C was put up to the test in 3 different positions, the first position was on its back.  In this test as we suspected, the iPhone 5C held up excellently.  No dents, and little to no scratches were seen.
  • When the 5C model was put to the side test it dented a little but more.  Similar to the iPhone 5S, and quite possibly less damage then seen in the iPhone 5S Drop Test.  No cracks and as you can see in the video it looked fine!
  • The face down iPhone 5C Drop Test did in fact prove to be fatal!  However the iPhone still does function.  There was some spider-web cracks that became painfully apparent after the drop test was exhibited.

iPhone 5C Drop Test Summary:  The iPhone 5C handles very well just as the iPhone 5S and iPhone 5 of the previous year.  It was sad that it had to crack, however if you look at the slow motion footage, it hit at a worse angle then the iPhone 5S drop test was hit at.  This indicates that both of these iPhones seem to handle very well under normal drops that you might expect in every day life.  The occasional drop that proves fatal can be prevented by a simple case that you can buy.  You can also purchase a plastic outer shield that can prevent your iPhone from cracking and denting.  We would rate both iPhone 5S and iPhone 5C the same.  Other sources say that the iPhone 5C is less durable, however the plastic shell actually proved to dent less then the iPhone 5S in the video footage.  The screens are however the same.
