Hawaiian Airlines Gets iPad Mini Entertainment instead of traditional junk!

If you a frequent flyer of Hawaiian Airlines you will be pretty excited to hear this news!  Hawaiian Airlines Gets iPad Mini‘s on flights of over 14 cross continental and inter-continental flights within Hawaii.  It seems pretty awesome however its stops with that thought, because while it is pretty “cool” it will cost you money each time you fly if you want to use the in-flight iPad.

Hawaiian Airlines Gets iPad Mini Entertainment

If your a huge Apple fan, the price wont be a huge deal, but if you like me i’d rather buy the product then rent it.  Hawaiian Airlines are ordering 1500 iPad mini’s according to 9to5mac for their boeing airplanes.  They will offer movies and games on these iPads.  The price is the only sad part.  It will cost you a reported $15-$17 depending on if you “pre-reserve” your iPad mini before boarding the flight.  $15 isn’t that bad, but if you have the cash to just buy the iPad mini thats most likely a better idea if you plan on using this service much.

$17 bucks a pop could drain your bank fast if you take 5 flights in a day, which some people actually do!  That would run you a daily bill of $85.  Since iPads only cost around $300 brand new, it would only make sense to head over to Apple and buy yourself one instead of this rent-service.

I wish that all airlines would provide these entertainment devices free of charge, however it looks like its going to cost you!  Aside from that it seems to be fairly cool.  every time I step into an airplane the technology for entertainment is very old.  I hope that they seriously upgrade everything.  Get some Retina displays for the TV monitors and people will be amazed with the in-flight entertainment quality.  Keep the same CRT displays and people wont want to fly on your ancient airplanes anymore!

via Hawaiian Airlines:

“Hawaiian Airlines‘ signature on-board hospitality is already very popular with travelers, but we wanted to go even further to ensure our customers’ travel experience is more enjoyable,” said Blaine Miyasato, Hawaiian Airlines vice president of product development. “With the help of Bluebox Avionics, we’re building on our acclaimed inflight service by incorporating the latest in popular consumer tech products to enhance our in-flight entertainment options.”

It will come preloaded with TV shows, and some of the latest movies.  This however might be enough to push people into renting them for long flights especially!  Its unfortunate that the ipad mini doesnt carry the Retina display.  That would be even better, however Hawaiian Airlines is positive that this will be a “big hit” with travelers.
